Well my day started off with a big WHAT THE FUCK! I walked outside and we were down to about 2 miles in dust and the seas were out of control! I totally did not forecast that to happen. Apperantly while I was sleeping there was a downburst in Saudi Arabia which kicked up a ton of dust and just dumped it right on the top of us. So as you can imagine I was pretty upset for the first half of my day. It wasn't til around noon when it started to rain that my spirit's picked up, mainly because I had forecasted that part. The CO told me that he actually preffered the weather the way it was for stratgic reasons, something I didn't even think about. I'm not going to lie I spent the first half of the day just waiting to get yelled at, and to my suprise I never did. The chain knows that weather out here is often unpredictable and that shit happens.
So tonight I told them that we were going to have Thunderstorms tonight from this system that kicked up over Kuwait, I even informed everyone who needed to know that, and yes some of them laughed. Sure as shit we are currently in the middle of a thunderstorm, and it happened exactly when I said it would! The XO passed me on the cat walk and said "Nice weather huh?" I of course replied "I told you" "That you did AG2 That you did".
Like I've said the folks out here are really nice...at least so far seeing as I haven't had a major fuck up yet. Most of the people are only out here for 45 days and then they go home but there are a few of us who get stuck out here for 80-90 days and those are the ones that tend to be more chill than the others. Mainly because we have accepted our fate lol.
I was also talking to MEC Flouge today about the history of this place because I've only heard bits and pieces so he filled me in on the rest. Apperantly the US blew this place up during Deseret Storm and took out all the Iraqi's. Well after the Gulf War we gave it back and then during OEF we took it back again. I've been walking around and I've noticed all these holes in the floor, and yeah that's from the Attack Choppers and SEAL and Special forces taking this place over. Two of the ME's (Coast Guards version of the military police) were actually here when it happened (and yes they have proof lol). I honestly had no clue that this place had a history like that. In a way it's a little creepy. That and the story that the other MEC told me about the Iranians ran sacking the place and killing all the Iraqi workers.
Well it's time for bed!
